Founded in 1978, the Photographic Gallery Hippolyte is the oldest operating photographic gallery in Finland. The gallery has always been a popular place to visit among professionals and amateurs alike. Soon to celebrate its 30th anniversary, Photographic Gallery Hippolyte has in its time showcased both international classics and young talent as well as budding artists and seasoned photographers from home.
The gallery's exhibition committee seeks to set an ambitious and high-profile exhibition policy by its selection of exhibitors, both from applicants and by producing exhibitions. Most of the exhibitions are solo shows by Finnish artists. Since the convergence of the arts, the gallery has served as a venue for all artists whose work is based on photography. The gallery hosts 12 exhibitions a year.
