A Shadow at the Edge of Every Moment of the Day
To celebrate the publication of Ida Pimenoff's first monograph A Shadow at the Edge of Every Moment of the Day there will be discussion on Sep 8th from 5-5.30 p.m. In conversation with the artist will be novelist Joel Haahtela and visual artist Heli Hiltunen. (Discussion in Finnish).
Ida Pimenoff's exhibition A Shadow at the Edge of Every Moment of the Day consists of photographs taken over the past 6 years. The images depict misty cityscapes, seashores at dusk, reflections, and human characters whose faces are hidden in the shadows. A dreamlike atmosphere unifies the images.
The works in this exhibition draw from photography's particular ability to simultaneously show both visible reality and the subconscious reality which lies underneath. In her work, Ida Pimenoff attempts to depict a person's inner world . Through photography she tries to give form to the most private of dreams and memories but also to painful losses. Her work tries to express something that in fact cannot be expressed. This unattainability gives the exhibition an air of tender melancholy.
Ida Pimenoff was born in 1977 in Helsinki, Finland, where she lives and works today. She studied photography at the University of Art and Design in Helsinki where she received her Master's degree in 2004. Pimenoff's works have been shown in several solo exhibitions in Finland and she has participated in numerous group exhibitions in Finland, France and the United States. A Shadow at the Edge of Every Moment of the Day, published by Kehrer Verlag, is her first monograph.
The exhibition has been supported by Arts Council of Finland, Finnish Cultural Foundation and Stina Krooks Stiftelse.
