Johanna Lecklin
TOMORROW
9 November - 2 December 2007

     – I waited and waited for tomorrow to come...

Tomorrow by Johanna Lecklin is a short film where a little girl wonders about the meaning of tomorrow. The story is based on a childhood memory recorded within Lecklin's Story Café project. The events of the film unfold in a home in Finland in the 1970s. A little girl demands that her father explain what tomorrow means. Dissatisfied with the answers she gets, she decides to stay up until midnight and wait for tomorrow to come. The original story was told by Jeanne, a French visitor to the Story Café in Helsinki in autumn 2006, and it is the first Story Café story to be made into a short film.

Lecklin has organised her Story Café in London during her residency there in spring 2004; in Limerick at the ev+a group exhibition in March 2006; in Gallery Huuto in Helsinki in October 2006; and in the Biennale of Young Artists from the Baltic Region held at Linnagalerii in Tallinn in September 2007. In the café, Lecklin records stories told by visitors. There are now about 120 stories, and Lecklin is planning to dramatise several of them. The work is part of Lecklin's post-graduate studies at the Finnish Academy of Fine Arts.
