Union > Membership application

Applying to become a member of the Union of Artist Photographers
The Union has ordinary members and candidate members. Both types of member enjoy identical services and privileges, rights and duties, with the exception that candidate members do not have a vote at Union meetings. All members are issued a membership card.

The Union selects new members at its annual autumn meeting. Prospective members must submit a completed membership application form with appendices and a portfolio to the Union office by the end of September. Applications are processed preliminarily by a membership committee appointed by the Union's Board of Directors. The committee submits its proposal for new members at the autumn meeting of the Union, which decides upon the acceptance of new members according to the rules of the Union.

Ordinary membership can be granted to a person who has shown merit as a photographic artist. Merit can include participation in national and international juried or curated exhibitions, success in national or international art competitions, a completed degree in art, and solo shows in galleries.

Candidate membership can be granted to a person who has completed vocational art education (or, lacking formal education, proof of the acquisition of corresponding skills). Candidate membership may last a maximum of 5 years, during which time the candidate may apply for ordinary membership at any time.

The membership application must include a completed application form with appendices and a portfolio of artistic work spanning the last five years. The portfolio must include 10-20 images (max size A4) which give a good idea of the applicant's current body of work. The pictures may be photographic prints or high-quality computer printouts. Each image must be accompanied by data on the work (title, technique, dimensions, year). The portfolio should also include a short presentation of the artistic premises and content of each project, and preferably also photos of previous exhibitions. The application must also include a detailed list of merits, detailing artistic work in particular. The application should not include any press clippings, reviews or recommendations.

In matters relating to membership application, feel free to enquire at the Union office.
