KAISU KOSKI
Pharmakon

Pharmakon - Greek for medicine and poison - is a series which explores the interaction between medication, the human body and the environment. The series combines the documentary and poetic idioms, which are used to visualize the cycle of drugs and their effects.

The exhibition presents video and photographic works from the series Local/global anesthetics. Alternating between the personal and the clinical registers, the pictures are fantasies constructed by analogue means.

Kaisu Koski is a media artist and researcher, based in the Netherlands. She studied in the Faculty of Art and Design at the University of Lapland, and defended her PhD, Augmenting Theatre, in 2007. She has also completed the Master of Theatre programme DasArts in the Amsterdam School of the Arts.

Her practice is intertwined with academic research, focusing especially on the methodology of artistic research and the dialogue between art and life sciences. In 2010 the Academy of Finland awarded Koski a three-year grant for artistic research. The research will be undertaken in cooperation with the University of Lapland and the Arts and Genomics Centre in Leiden University in the Netherlands.
