TERO PUHA
SOME SECRET PLACE INSIDE

In May, Hippolyte Studio presents Some Secret Place Inside, Tero Puha's first exhibition of graphic art. The pencil drawings the works are based on were done without any conscious plan under the influence of powerful emotions. Arising from hatred, disappointment and grief, these 'automatic drawings' were then scanned into a computer and blended, coloured and recomposed digitally. The final works present a combination of unpredictable, uncontrolled drawing and a digitally constructed palette. The pictures are printed in pigment ink on paper.

Tero Puha's earlier exhibitions have for the most part consisted of lens-based works: photographs and videos. Yet he has always been drawing along with his other work. The drawings the works at Hippolyte are based on date back as far as 15 years.

In addition to the new works, the exhibition will also feature "Tero Puha Minishop" presenting books, special publications, portfolios, prints, video works etc. from Puha's earlier career for both viewing and sale.

Tero Puha (b. 1971) is a visual artist working with photography, video and digital media. In his creative work, he often explores the life of the modern individual, focusing on body image, identity, gender roles and consumerism. Attempts to define the line between the natural and the unnatural are bound to create conflicts and pressures for the modern individual in search of identity and purpose in life, these are the sources of Puha’s inspiration. Puha has worked in Helsinki, London, Paris, Berlin and New York. His art has been exhibited internationally and can be found in the collections of several art museums.
