Kirsi Tiittanen
Small Spaces - a touch of silence
30 May - 27 June 2008
Open: Tue-Fri 12-17, Sat-Sun 12-16
The gallery will be closed at Midsummer from Friday 20 June to Sunday 22 June 2008.
Through the use of different media, the works of Kirsi Tiittanen build up into a single, unified whole. Each work has three physical levels: the area behind the photo is gilded and painted, the photo itself is printed on canvas, and it is further treated with printmaking techniques.
The subject of the photographs are temples, interiors with a very intimate mood. Tiittanen's technique has the effect of pulling the viewer into the space of the physical work as well as that of the depicted interior.
Kirsi Tiittanen (b. 1959) has since the early 1990s been working with photography as one of her media. She combines photographs with all sorts of different materials, such as paper she makes herself, translucent fabrics, metal, Plexiglas, glass and wood. She uses many old as well as new techniques of printmaking, painting and photography, adapting them to the needs of the individual picture. Often her works not only blend different techniques, but also juxtapose two different times and spaces.
