Mostly I take photos when traveling. That's when I have a need to make sense of the new environment through the camera lens. I'm a documentarist, but I filter what I see through my own experience and points of view.

Between 1999 and 2004 I made six shooting trips to Russia in order to capture fleeting moments at people's homes and on suburban backyards in Moscow. My point of view had to do with the disappearing traditional everyday aesthetics, which are, at least on the surface, becoming rapidly Westernized. As a reaction to the picture of Russia brought to us by Western media, making my own conclusions and interpretations as well as avoiding overindulging on the depiction of squalor were among my main objectives. I wanted to emphasize the lyrical side of Moscow without forgetting tragedy, comedy and the city's idiosyncratic colour schemes which are now vanishing, too.

My newest project "Offseason" is in the works now. In "Offseasin" I take a look the busy tourist centers of Normandy, France, during the winter when beaches are deserted and the mood grey and melancholic.
